Tour Overview
The 8 days Uganda Gorillas and Zanzibar safari will take you to visit mountain gorillas in their natural habitat within Uganda’s Bwindi impenetrable forest national park and later take a vacation at the world’s most beautiful beaches. Take a morning / afternoon boat cruise in Lake Mburo national park and fly to Zanzibar where you will discover beautiful blue beaches, visit the legendary stone town, Jozani-Chwaka forest, spice plantations tour and also take part in different beach activities like swimming, snorkeling, surfing and much more. Wildlife that will be explored during this safari include gorillas, leopards, hyenas, impalas, zebras, warthogs and much more. Also, you will have several stopovers while on this journey to different destinations; for instance at the Uganda equator and Mbarara city’s Igongo Cultural Centre.
Detailed Itinerary
Arrive at the airport in Entebbe or be picked from an agreed point, either in Kampala or Entebbe and later head straight to Lake Mburo national park in western Uganda. This is the smallest savannah national park in Uganda and the nearest national park to the capital city, Kampala. The driver guide will make a stopover at the Uganda equator where you will take memorable photos and buy some souvenirs. The drive to this park from Kampala takes only 3 hours and rewards you with sights of Ankole plains and majestic Ankole long horned cattle. Arrive and head to the lodge which will mark the end of your first day.
This great day starts with breakfast at the lodge and then head for a morning game drive in the plains where you will spot animals like the zebras, impalas, buffalos, Topis, elands and May more. This experience is done with a help of the park ranger guide well knowledge about the park premises. After the two hours of experience, you will head to the lodge for lunch, followed by an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Mburo. This lake offers great photographic points covered with beautiful scenery, animals like hippos, crocodiles won’t be missed.
Leave Lake Mburo national park and transfer to Bwindi impenetrable forest national park after a morning game drive. This journey takes about 5 hours including an hour of lunch break in Kabale town. Pass via the Igongo Cultural Centre for a museum experience to learn the culture of both Bakiga and Banyankole tribes. Arrive in the evening and head straight to the lodge for relaxation and dinner.
Head to the park offices on a short drive by the driver guide and you will meet other trekkers at the briefing point. Take heed of gorilla habituation precautions like not feeding animals, don’t litter the forest, always keeping a 7m distance from gorillas and many more. Start your trek with the help of a park ranger guide. Spend a maximum of 2-8 hours while in the forest, including 4 hours while in the presence of a semi-habituated mountain gorilla family. Gorillas live in groups called families and each family is led by a male called silverback. After this interesting time, you will trek back to the lodge and this will be the end of this day.
Leave Bwindi Impenetrable Forest national park early in the morning and head to Entebbe with a stopover at the Uganda equator in Kayabwe for lunch. Proceed to Entebbe and be dropped at the airport, board a regional connecting flight to Zanzibar in Tanzania, where you will meet our Zanzibari representative that will take you to the booked hotel.
During these two days, explore the different beaches in Zanzibar including Nungwi beach, Kendwa beach, Paje and many more. Take part in different activities like ski-diving, surfing, swimming, snorkeling, sun bathing, town walks, cultural tours and plantation tours. Also, take a tour around stone town where you will explore numerous ancient buildings and visit the local markets. Take a spice tour where you will be able to taste and feel the fresh scent of African spices. Take a sunset dhow cruise to the rock restaurant and this will be another adventure to savor delicious sea food. Another adventure is a visit to the Jozani-Chwaka, the only forest in the island of Zanzibar.
Leave your beach resort where you had slept for the previous nights, check out and then drive to the airport in Zanzibar. You will board international flight back home, marking the end of this 8 days safari in Uganda and Zanzibar.
