Detailed Itinerary
Head to Kibale forest national park after the pick up from a point agreed point. The journey to this park takes about 5 to 6 hours’ drive depending on the speed of your driver but this journey will include a stopover in Mubende where you have lunch and some snacks. Kibale forest national park is one of the most visited conservation areas and known for chimpanzees that live together with other 12 primates. There are also other attractions like bird species, tree species and butterflies among others. Then head to Isunga community to begin a great cultural experience. This will introduce you to entertaining cultural performance, music and drama for both the Batooro and Bakiga. Check in the accommodation facility and this will mark the end of day one.
Head into the forest after breakfast and attend a briefing which covers different aspects including the dos and don’ts like no feeding of animals, no making noise, keep a distance among others. You will therefore head into the forest on foot with the help of a park ranger guide who will be fully armed to offer protection in case of an attack. Tracking the chimpanzees can last for 3 to 4 hours depending on the location of chimpanzee family but an hour offered to you and during this time, you will have a great time in their presence taking photos, learning their behavior and much more. After this adventure, trek back and head to your lodge for lunch as you pass through the memorable photos. Visit Isunga Community with a local guide working with Isunga Cultural Community Tours to take you through different homesteads for both Bakiga and Batooro, explore different crate lakes and hike top of the world. Enjoy stunning views while on the summit. Spot the 3 crater lakes – Lake Nyamirima, Lake Nyinabulitwa and Lake Nyabikere respectively, Rwenzori ranges among others. This experience will take for about 3 hours and it will be rewarding and worth undertaking.
Have a short tea or coffee plantation experience at the edge of Kibale Forest National Park and the local guide from Isunga community will help you to learn about the methods used to grow these plants. After 3 hours of experience, you will proceed on the drive to Kampala and have a stopover in Mubende town for snacks, lunch and then continue to Kampala. The tour will end after you have been dropped off at an agreed point – either Kampala or Entebbe airport.
