With this 4 Days Mikeno Mist you will hike through the spectacular Nyungwe Forest National Park and marvel at its unmatched natural beauty marked by waterfalls and Valleys, discover the famous primate species and birds that call one of Africa’s largest and most exceptional jungles home.At 1000 square kilometers, Nyungwe Forest National Park is the second largest protected area in the country after Akagera National Park with over 80 mammal species that include about 12 primate species as well as 320 bird species to look out for.
With a detailed focus on the Protected Area’s phenomenal highlights, there is a possibility of hitting some of the hiking trails as well as treasure troves that make the Park a timeless and exceptional safari destination.
Detailed Itinerary
Transfer to Grande Barriere border crossing (Rwanda-Congo border crossing) to check in at the Virunga tourism office. You will be availed a valid gorilla and Nyiragongo hiking permits, then you continue to Kibumba for relaxation and refreshments.
Wake up early and be prepared for your life-changing adventure. Head off to the Virunga National Park offices to be briefed on guidelines for gorilla trekking and a gorilla group will be assigned to you. Start your trek early, expecting to take at least 2 to 6 hours as you navigate through the jungles and high altitudes. Once you have located a family of gorillas in the Virunga National Park, you will enjoy 1 hour of a face-to-face encounter with these unique apes. Trek back to the lodge, relax and later, you may have an optional guided walk in the nearby community/nature walk.
Following an early morning breakfast, transfer to Kibati Ranger Post for a briefing about your Mount Nyiragongo hike. Depart from Kibati for a rewarding 3-4 hours’ trek to Nyiragongo summit. You will have one night at the top of Mt. Nyiragongo (3470m), and you will enjoy the breathtaking view of bubbling Lava Lake.
Check out of the Nyiragongo summits located at the crater rim and begin descending to Kitabi. From Kibati, proceed to the Grande Barrier border crossing and this brings to an end the Mikeno Mist -4 Days tour.
